In a recent interview with Saturday Sun, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, the 16th Emir of Kano, reflected on the ongoing turmoil surrounding the Kano emirate. “When Ganduje wanted to create these Emirates, he could not find a law to amend,” Sanusi stated, highlighting the controversial nature of the legislative amendments used to justify the creation of new emirates such as Bichi, Rano, and Gaya. These changes, he argued, upended centuries-old norms and divided the unified Kano Emirate into multiple entities, each with its own jurisdiction.
