Aladetan Opeyemi, a 12-year-old student of Oyo State Comprehensive Model College, has been inaugurated as the one-day chairman of Oluyole Local Government Area in Oyo State.
The initiative, designed to promote academic excellence, also saw three other students take leadership roles. Abdulrasaq Oladokun, also 12 years old, was appointed Vice Chairman, while Aluko Israel and Tijani Teslim, both 13 years old, assumed the positions of Secretary and Leader of the House, respectively.
The students earned their roles through a school-based competition held within the local government area, with Opeyemi emerging as the first runner-up in the contest.
The swearing-in ceremony took place at the Oluyole Local Government Secretariat, where the young leaders were officially welcomed into their positions. They later inspected a newly completed Grade A Customary Court project in the area.

Hon. Akeem Olatunji, the Executive Chairman of Oluyole Local Government, explained that the programme was aimed at rewarding academic excellence and inspiring students to strive for success.
“This initiative supports Governor Seyi Makinde’s vision and showcases that academic achievements are more worthy of recognition than the celebration of nudity often seen on television and social media,” Olatunji stated.
He pledged to continue the programme throughout his tenure and expressed hope that future administrations would uphold the initiative, which highlights the importance of nurturing young leaders through education.
