In a significant move towards advancing Nigeria’s digital economy, the Federal Government is set to unveil the second cohort of the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) program. Dr. Bosun Tijani, the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, shared this eagerly awaited update, highlighting the commitment to fostering technical skills development.
The announcement signifies a major milestone for the 3MTT initiative, a pivotal component of the Renewed Hope agenda. Aimed at building Nigeria’s technical talent backbone, the program strives to position the nation as a prominent exporter of digital skills. The second cohort, consisting of 270,000 selected fellows, is scheduled to kick off their training in March.
Dr. Tijani expressed optimism about the program’s success, emphasizing the overwhelming support received from partners and stakeholders. The government’s dedication to the initiative is evident, with a goal of training 3 million Nigerians in technical skills, crucial for propelling the nation’s digital transformation.
As the first cohort of fellows nears the completion of their training, the Minister highlighted an additional positive development. Over 1,400 organizations have shown interest in providing job placements for the graduates, aligning with the program’s objective of connecting technically trained talent with quality employment opportunities. The announcement of these job placements is anticipated in the coming weeks.

The 3MTT program’s first phase, executed in collaboration with NITDA, involved selecting individuals with specific skills interests and funding their training with approved providers. The initial phase aimed to train and place 30,000 technical talents, representing 1% of the overall target. Skills imparted in the first phase encompassed a diverse range, from Digital Marketing and Cloud Platforms Navigation to Data Analysis and Visualisation.
This innovative approach aligns with the Ministry’s 1%-10%-100% implementation strategy, fostering collaboration among government agencies, training providers, educational institutions, development agencies, and the private sector.
As the digital landscape continues to evolve, the 3MTT program stands as a beacon, empowering Nigerians with essential technical skills while creating a bridge between talent and employment opportunities. The imminent announcement of the second cohort marks another stride towards achieving the ambitious goal of a digitally skilled and empowered Nigeria.
