The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has raised an alarm over the emergence of a new terrorist group, Lakurawa, operating in Sokoto and Kebbi states. The group’s activities have intensified the already dire security situation in Nigeria’s North-West, prompting ACF to urge swift and decisive action from the military.
In a statement released by its National Publicity Secretary, Professor Tukur Muhammad-Baba, ACF described the rise of Lakurawa as a severe threat to national security. The Forum warned against any leniency towards the group, emphasizing the importance of avoiding a repeat of past mistakes, such as the delayed responses to Boko Haram, farmer-herder conflicts, and banditry.

ACF called for a comprehensive reassessment of military strategies and recommended bolstering the Multi-National Joint Task Force (MJTF) with neighboring countries, including persuading Niger Republic to rejoin the collaborative effort against terrorism.
The statement also highlighted the need for enhanced intelligence gathering, community engagement to expose informants, and improved inter-agency cooperation under the National Security Advisor’s office. ACF stressed that tackling Lakurawa should be a national priority to ensure peace and stability in the region.
