African Union Internship 2025 Guide: Application, Requirements, and Tips

The African Union (AU) has officially opened applications for its 2025 Internship Program. This is an incredible opportunity for young Africans looking to gain hands-on experience in international policy, administration, and development work.

Designed for students and recent graduates, the internship offers a unique chance to work with one of the continent’s most influential institutions. Interns will engage in real-time projects, work alongside experienced professionals, and contribute directly to the AU’s mission of promoting unity, peace, and progress across Africa. Interested applicants can apply directly through the AU Careers Portal here.

The program is full-time and lasts for three months, with a possibility of renewal. Interns will be placed in various AU departments such as Peace and Security, Education, Infrastructure, Women and Youth, Legal Counsel, and more. Whether onsite at the AU headquarters in Addis Ababa or remotely, participants will develop essential skills for their careers.

To be eligible, applicants must be under the age of 32 and citizens of an AU Member State. They must either be in the final year of their undergraduate program or have already completed a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field.

Although the internship is unpaid, it provides an unmatched professional experience and networking opportunity. Interns are responsible for their own travel, accommodation, and living expenses, and must have valid medical and travel insurance for the entire duration of the internship.

Interested candidates are required to submit a motivation letter, CV, certified academic documents, a recommendation letter from their university, and a valid passport or national ID. All applications must be submitted online.

This is a highly competitive program with limited slots, so early application is strongly encouraged. If you are a passionate young African ready to contribute to continental development and gain valuable skills, this internship could be the perfect stepping stone for your career
