Air Peace Triggers Price War on Lagos-London Flight Route

The competition on the Lagos to London flight route has intensified as Air Peace, a Nigerian airline, shakes up the market with its new direct flights. Since the launch of its Lagos to London service, Air Peace has disrupted the status quo, compelling foreign airlines to lower their prices to remain competitive.

Air Peace began operating direct flights from Lagos to London on March 30, offering round-trip economy tickets at significantly lower rates compared to foreign carriers. In response, foreign airlines swiftly reduced their fares, with some offering round-trip economy tickets for as low as ₦841,732.

This price adjustment marks a significant departure from earlier this year when ticket prices on the Lagos-London route soared to as high as N3.5 million. The drastic reduction in fares reflects the heightened competition fueled by Air Peace’s entry into the market.

However, Air Peace’s Chairman, Allen Onyema, has voiced concerns about what he perceives as a coordinated effort by foreign airlines to undercut his company’s operations through aggressive pricing tactics. Onyema alleges that foreign carriers are conspiring to drive Air Peace out of the Nigeria-London route.

Despite facing challenges such as ground handling and space allocation issues at Gatwick Airport, Onyema remains steadfast in his commitment to providing affordable and reliable air travel options for Nigerians.

The ongoing price war underscores the dynamic nature of the aviation industry and highlights the importance of innovation and competition in driving down costs for travelers.
