In a significant development following the recent commemoration of the 10-year anniversary, troops of Operation Desert Sanity III, part of North East Operation Hadin Kai, have successfully rescued another Chibok girl, Lydia Simon, along with her three children. This heroic rescue took place in Ngoza LGA of Borno State, with Lydia’s escape from the clutches of captivity in Mandara Mountain.
Lydia, identified as serial number 68 among the abducted girls, managed to break free from the confines of Ali Ngulde’s camp after enduring several years of captivity. She courageously surrendered herself to the troops of 82 Division Task Force Battalion stationed in Ngoshe, Gwoza LGA. At the time of her rescue, Lydia was five months pregnant and hails from Pemi Town in Chibok.

This rescue underscores the ongoing efforts of the Nigerian Army to combat terrorism and insurgency in the region, particularly in liberating those held against their will by extremist groups like Boko Haram. Lydia’s freedom brings hope and renewed determination in the quest to secure the release of all remaining Chibok girls and end the menace of terrorism in Nigeria.
The United States lawmakers have also shown their solidarity with the cause by passing a resolution focused on the Chibok girls and the threat posed by Boko Haram. This international recognition further emphasizes the importance of concerted global efforts in addressing the challenges faced by the affected communities.
