ASUU to Appraise Zonal Mobilisation Ahead of Planned Strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is set to review its mobilisation efforts across various zones in preparation for a potential nationwide strike action. This comes as the union’s branches have issued a three-week ultimatum to the Federal Government regarding several outstanding demands.

ASUU’s demands focus on key issues related to conditions of service, including:

The Federal Government has previously initiated plans to pay lecturers in federal universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education via the Government Integrated Financial Management System (GIFMIS), also known as the GIFMIS.

A member of the National Executive Council (NEC) of ASUU, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, expressed frustration with the government’s approach to the situation. “We have observed for too long and are shocked that the government has chosen to ignore us. After the mobilisation, the NEC will meet to appraise the actions and formally decide on the next line of action,” the member stated.
