In a statement released on Thursday, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar extended his congratulations to Aliko Dangote, Chairman of the Dangote Group, for the successful launch of petrol production at the Dangote Refinery. This accomplishment marks a significant step for Nigeria, which has long struggled with its petrol supply chain.
Atiku praised Dangote’s resilience and entrepreneurial spirit, acknowledging the hurdles faced in reaching this milestone. “This achievement not only showcases Dangote’s business acumen but also demonstrates the potential of corporate Nigeria to revitalize the economy,” Atiku stated on his verified Facebook page. He emphasized his vision for greater private sector involvement in Nigeria’s economic growth, noting that collaboration between the private sector and the government is essential for sustainable progress.
However, Atiku seized the opportunity to critique the policies of the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government, accusing them of damaging investor confidence. He argued that difficult-to-implement reforms and unsupportive regulations have hampered private sector growth, deterring investors from the Nigerian economy. “The APC government has done more harm than good to the economy since 2015 by creating an environment where private sector investment is stifled,” he remarked.
Atiku concluded by expressing hope for continued strides towards energy self-sufficiency in Nigeria, calling on Dangote to remain a key player in the country’s economic recovery.
