The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has inaugurated a legal team to challenge the outcome of the controversial presidential election held on February 25, 2023. The team is charged with the responsibility of establishing the illegality of the election and reclaiming the mandate of the Nigerian people.
Atiku made the inauguration at his campaign headquarters in Abuja, where he called on the team to work tirelessly to not only benefit him and the PDP but also to strengthen democracy and the electoral process in the country.
According to Atiku, the election was a heist and did not reflect the will of Nigerians. He believes that the team must take on this challenge as a matter of urgency, not only to reclaim the mandate of the people but also to set a precedent that will strengthen democratic institutions and practices in the country.
The legal team comprises some of the best legal minds in the country, including Chief J.K. Gadzama, SAN, who heads the team. Other members include Chief Chris Uche (SAN), Mr. Paul Usoro (SAN), Tayo Jegede (SAN), Ken Mozia (SAN), Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN), Mahmood Magaji (SAN), Joe Abraham (SAN), Mr. Chukwuma Umeh (SAN), Dr. Garba Tetengi (SAN), Chief Emeka Etiaba (SAN), Chief Goddy Uche (SAN), Prof. Maxwell Gidado (SAN), the National Legal Adviser of the PDP, A.K. Ajibade (SAN), Mr. O.M. Atoyebi (SAN), Mrs. Nella Rabana (SAN), Paul Ogbole (SAN), Nuremi Jimoh (SAN), and Abdul Ibrahim (SAN).
The legal team’s primary goal is to prove that the February 25 presidential election was marred by irregularities and electoral malpractices. They must establish that the election was not a reflection of the will of the people and that it was, therefore, illegal.
The PDP’s legal team has a herculean task ahead of them, given the nature of Nigeria’s political terrain. However, their pedigree and reputation for excellence give Nigerians hope that justice will be done.
It is imperative that the legal team works diligently to reclaim the mandate, not just for Atiku and the PDP, but also for the good of the country’s democratic process. The legal challenge will set a precedent that will shape the future of politics in Nigeria and possibly, Africa.
In conclusion, Atiku’s decision to inaugurate a legal team to challenge the outcome of the presidential election is a bold and commendable move. The legal team’s responsibility is enormous, and their success will depend on their ability to prove the illegality of the election. It is hoped that justice will be done, and the electoral process strengthened, as a result of this legal challenge.
