Welcoming the delegation in Abuja, INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to supporting Benin’s electoral efforts. He emphasized the importance of cross-border collaboration in strengthening democratic practices.

“Last month, we received a request from CENA to undertake this study visit as they prepare for what they describe as their most complex election cycle in history. For the first time, CENA will be conducting three elections within three months. This delegation, comprising National Commissioners, Directors, and key staff, seeks to understudy our processes and procedures to help them prepare effectively,” Yakubu explained.

Dr. Lafia commended INEC for its hospitality and expertise, expressing confidence that the insights gained during the visit would contribute significantly to the successful conduct of Benin’s elections.

“The President of Benin has mandated the conduct of three elections within three months in 2026. This visit is critical for us to learn from Nigeria’s experiences and apply the lessons to achieve success. We are optimistic that this engagement will help us deliver on our mandate,” Lafia said.

The visit underscores the importance of regional cooperation in enhancing electoral processes and ensuring credible, transparent elections across West Africa.
