A 12-member delegation from the Autonomous National Electoral Commission (CENA) of Benin Republic, led by its President, Dr. Sacca Lafia, has arrived in Nigeria for a study visit to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The visit aims to gain valuable insights into Nigeria’s electoral processes as Benin prepares for a challenging election season in 2026.
The delegation is focused on learning strategies to manage three major elections scheduled to take place in Benin within three months legislative and local elections in January 2026, followed by the presidential election in April 2026.
Welcoming the delegation in Abuja, INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to supporting Benin’s electoral efforts. He emphasized the importance of cross-border collaboration in strengthening democratic practices.
“Last month, we received a request from CENA to undertake this study visit as they prepare for what they describe as their most complex election cycle in history. For the first time, CENA will be conducting three elections within three months. This delegation, comprising National Commissioners, Directors, and key staff, seeks to understudy our processes and procedures to help them prepare effectively,” Yakubu explained.
