Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has called on the federal government to reconsider merging Army University Biu in Borno with the Nigeria Defence Academy (NDA) in Kaduna. Governor Zulum made this plea during an interview with journalists in Maiduguri on Thursday.
Additionally, Governor Zulum urged the government to preserve the autonomy of the National Centre for Agricultural Mechanisation (NCAM) in Ilorin, instead of incorporating it as a department within the Ministry of Agriculture.
Highlighting the significance of Army University Biu, Governor Zulum emphasized its role in providing education, particularly in the North-east region, which has been heavily impacted by insurgency over the past decade.

“The University plays a critical role in the education sector, especially in Borno State. It is imperative for the government to recognize its importance,” Governor Zulum stated.
He further advocated for the preservation of NCAM’s independent status, citing its crucial role in advancing food security initiatives through the fabrication of agricultural tools and implements.

Governor Zulum expressed optimism that a technical committee would be established to review the proposed measures, emphasizing the need to prioritize education and agricultural development in the region and the nation at large.
