
A coalition of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), the Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room (NCSSR), has exposed widespread voter inducement during the Edo State governorship election. According to the group, politicians allegedly bought votes with bread and cash ranging from ₦5,000 to ₦10,000 per voter.
The Situation Room, comprising over 20 CSOs, observed blatant vote buying and selling across several polling units, despite the significant presence of security personnel.
Affected Areas
The NCSSR reported incidents in:
- PU08 and 09 Ward 2, Owan-East LGA
- PU 02 Ward 2, Etsako-West LGA
- Several polling units in Egor, Oredo, and Owan-West LGAs
In some cases, voters received food items like bread in exchange for their votes.
Arrests Made
The Situation Room commended the arrest of two alleged vote traders in George Idah Primary School, Ward 2, Oredo Local Government Area.
