In a groundbreaking initiative, 100 students from Sokoto State have been awarded fully-funded scholarships to study in India. This generous program, sponsored by Senator Ibrahim Lamido, aims to provide young Nigerians with the opportunity to pursue higher education in science and engineering fields at two prestigious Indian universities, Geeta and MJR Universities.
For many of the students, this opportunity marks the realization of a dream they never thought possible. Muhammad Salisu Gatawa, one of the recipients, shared his excitement: “Even in my dreams, I never thought of studying abroad, but God, in His mercy, has made this possible. We are now on our way to India, and we are incredibly grateful.”
Abubakar Isa, another student selected for the program, initially doubted the legitimacy of the scholarship when his credentials were collected for screening. “It wasn’t the first time politicians had asked for our papers, so I wasn’t convinced,” Isa explained. “But when I was later informed that I was selected, and then asked to prepare for the trip, I realized it was real.”

The scholarship recipients will study courses such as pharmacy, physiotherapy, medical laboratory technology, engineering, computer science, software engineering, cyber security, and machine learning, among others. These disciplines were selected with the goal of nurturing the next generation of professionals who will drive technological advancements and innovation.
As they embark on this life-changing journey, the students are determined to make the most of the opportunity. “We will repay this generous gesture by focusing on our studies and making our sponsor and community proud,” said Gatawa.
