The African Union (AU) has appointed Professor Isa Ali Pantami, a former Nigerian Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, as Co-chairman of the African Scientific Research and Innovation Council (AU-ASRIC).
Professor Pantami will play a pivotal role in crafting the 4th Industrial Revolution (4IR) Policy and Strategy for Africa, impacting all 54 countries on the continent.
As Nigeria’s former Minister of Communications, Pantami established the National Centre of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (NCAIR), which was critical in creating Nigeria’s first Digital Economy Policy.
Recognized as the first African Fellow by the Chartered Institute of Information Security in the United Kingdom, Pantami brings extensive expertise to his new position.

He will be joined by Professor Anicia Nicola Peter from Namibia, a renowned researcher with extensive experience in Human-Computer Interaction, Social Media, Gamification, and emerging technologies.
Other council members include Professor Khaleed Ghedira from Tunisia, Professor Maha Grima from Morocco, and other distinguished academics and policymakers.
The council aims to drive Africa’s adoption of cutting-edge technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Blockchain, and Cybersecurity.
Professor Pantami’s appointment underscores the AU’s commitment to leveraging expertise to drive Africa’s technological advancement.
