The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested the popular cross-dresser, Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, on charges related to currency mutilation and abuse of naira notes. The arrest took place in Lagos on Wednesday night, according to EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale.
Bobrisky, who has been a controversial figure for various reasons, including winning the “Best Dressed Female” award at a movie premiere on March 25, 2024, has attracted significant attention from both supporters and critics.

However, amid the arrest, the Nigerian Police Force Spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi, clarified that cross-dressing itself is not considered a crime under Nigerian law. He emphasized the need for credible evidence to prosecute individuals and stated that allegations against cross-dressers often involve other activities that may be punishable under Nigerian laws.
As of now, Bobrisky remains detained at the EFCC’s Lagos office and is expected to be charged in court.
