In a move aimed at providing relief to Nigerians during the festive season, the Federal Government has officially declared a 50% reduction in public transport fares. The announcement was made by the Minister of Solid Minerals, Dele Alake, during a press conference held in Abuja to discuss the presidential intervention in public transportation for the yuletide season.

According to Alake, the intervention is scheduled to commence on Thursday, December 21, and will run until January 4, 2024. This means that from tomorrow, Nigerians planning to travel can avail themselves of a 50% discount on public transport via minibuses and luxury buses. Additionally, all train services operating on their respective routes will be provided free of charge for the duration of the holiday season.

The Minister emphasized that this initiative, approved by President Bola Tinubu, is a demonstration of the government’s commitment to ensuring that Nigerians can reunite with their loved ones and travel to their hometowns without the burden of high transportation costs.

President Tinubu, who supports the gesture, has directed security agencies, including the police, Department of State Services (DSS), and the military, to collaborate and ensure a safe holiday period without any security breaches across the country.

While delivering this news, Alake urged Nigerians to be law-abiding, security-conscious, and extend goodwill to family, friends, and neighbors. He emphasized that the President is dedicated to making the holiday season memorable and enjoyable for all citizens.
