BREAKING: Federal Government Suspends N-Power Program

Federal Government Suspends N-Power Program

In a significant and unexpected move, the Federal Government of Nigeria has taken the decision to suspend the N-Power Program, a flagship initiative designed to combat youth unemployment and promote social development within the nation. This decision comes amidst growing concerns over the misuse of funds and various irregularities that have plagued the program in recent times.

The Minister responsible for overseeing the N-Power Program made a compelling announcement, revealing that a thorough investigation into the utilization of funds since the program’s inception is already underway. Shockingly, the investigation has unearthed several alarming issues, including instances where program beneficiaries are not fulfilling their assigned responsibilities while continuing to expect their monthly stipends. Even more concerning is the discovery that some beneficiaries were supposed to have exited the program in 2022 but remain on the payroll, effectively draining valuable financial resources.

In light of these revelations, the Minister stressed the urgency of a comprehensive review of the N-Power program to gain a deeper understanding of the challenges it currently faces. Consequently, the decision has been made to temporarily suspend the program to allow for a thorough investigation. This investigation will encompass key aspects such as determining the exact number of participants, addressing outstanding payments, and initiating an overall restructuring and expansion of the program.

One of the most disconcerting findings from the investigation is that a significant portion of program beneficiaries, approximately 80 percent, is not actively engaged in their assigned roles, despite continuing to receive salaries. This revelation underscores the critical need for a comprehensive overhaul of the program to ensure it achieves its primary objective of addressing youth unemployment and fostering social development.

The N-Power Program was originally introduced during the tenure of former President Muhammadu Buhari as a vital step towards addressing the pressing issue of youth unemployment in Nigeria. However, the decision to suspend the program demonstrates the Federal Government’s unwavering commitment to rectifying its flaws and ensuring it operates with transparency and effectiveness.

This decision underscores the Federal Government’s determination to uphold accountability and maximize the impact of social development initiatives for the benefit of the Nigerian populace. Additional details regarding the suspension of the N-Power Program and subsequent reforms will be provided as the investigation progresses.
