BREAKING: FG Donates N3 Billion to Kebbi Flood Victims

In a move to alleviate the suffering of flood victims in Kebbi State, the Federal Government has donated N3 billion to support farmers who lost their crops to the devastating flood. Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, made the announcement during his visit to Kebbi State on Saturday, August 24, 2024.

Edun, who was accompanied by the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Atiku Bagudu, conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the damage caused by the flood on rice farmlands in Argungu Local Government Area. He expressed satisfaction with the production capacity of Wacot rice mills, which he toured alongside the state governor, Dr. Nasir Idris.

The Minister highlighted the significance of Kebbi State in feeding the nation, stating that “Kebbi alone, if well-funded, can feed the entire nation.” He assured that President Tinubu is committed to supporting the expansion of rice mills and mini rice millers in the state to boost mass food production, reduce food inflation, and create more jobs for Nigerians.

He emphasized that Kebbi State has been supporting farmers with free fertilizers, seedlings, and pumping machines to fast-track farming activities. The state is also prepared to engage in massive dry season farming with the same support and encouragement to farmers.

This donation is a welcome relief to the flood victims in Kebbi State, and the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting rice farmers will go a long way in ensuring food security and reducing poverty in the region.
