Tragedy struck in Bauchi State as a stampede during a Zakat distribution claimed the lives of four individuals. The incident occurred at the office of AYM Shafa’s Shafa Holdings along Jos Road in Bauchi metropolis.
On Sunday, crowds of the needy gathered in anticipation of receiving Zakat, an Islamic obligation of charity. The stampede ensued as people jostled to collect their share, resulting in four fatalities and several injuries.
Zakat, a pillar of the Islamic faith, requires Muslims to donate a portion of their wealth to the less fortunate. Eligibility is determined by meeting specific financial criteria, with individuals obligated to contribute 2.5% or 1/40 of their total savings and assets.

Confirming the tragic event, Bauchi State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, reported the casualties and stated that the situation is now under control.
