BREAKING: Kano State Under 24-Hour Curfew After Election Tribunal Verdict

Kano State, one of Nigeria’s most populous and politically significant regions, has been placed under a 24-hour curfew following a landmark judgment by the State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal. The tribunal’s decision resulted in the removal of Abba Kabir Yusuf from his position as the state governor.

This significant development was confirmed in a statement personally signed by the state’s Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Usaini Gumel. The statement outlined that a combined team of security forces has been deployed throughout the state capital to enforce the curfew effectively.

The curfew, in line with the constitutional mandate of the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant internal security agencies, is scheduled to be in effect from 6 pm on Wednesday, 20th September to 6 pm on Thursday, 21st September 2023.

The primary objective of imposing this curfew is to maintain law and order within Kano State. Security forces have been tasked with ensuring strict compliance with the curfew order. Violators of the curfew will face legal consequences.

The tribunal’s verdict, which declared Nasir Yusuf Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the March 18 election, sent shockwaves through the state. The announcement led to a sense of apprehension among residents, prompting many to take precautionary measures such as closing their shops and businesses due to fears of potential unrest and violence.
