The much-anticipated Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival in Kebbi State, originally set for February 2025, has been rescheduled to 2026. This decision was announced by the state’s Deputy Governor, Sen. Umar Abubakar Tafida, during a news briefing held in Birnin Kebbi.
The delay comes after consultations with the Argungu Emirate Council, and the need for extensive infrastructure upgrades to accommodate the festival. The state government plans to construct permanent and world-class structures at the festival grounds, which necessitates additional time.

Tafida also explained that ongoing road dualization and various development projects in Argungu township contributed to the postponement. Despite the change, he assured the public that the state government is committed to hosting an exceptional festival in 2026, which will highlight Kebbi’s rich cultural heritage and traditions.
The Argungu Festival, known for its historical significance and vibrant cultural activities, will return in 2026 with an improved setup aimed at providing an even greater experience for visitors and participants.
