BREAKING: Nigerian Artist Breaks Guinness World Record with 100-Hour Painting Marathon

In an extraordinary display of talent and dedication, Chancellor Ahaghotu, a sophomore at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, has set a new Guinness World Record for the longest painting marathon, surpassing the previous record set in 2013.

Guinness World Records made the announcement on Wednesday through its social media handles and website, acknowledging Ahaghotu’s remarkable achievement in the world of art. The young Nigerian artist surpassed the previous record of 60 hours, held by Roland Palmaerts from Belgium/Canada in 2013.

Ahaghotu, driven by his aspirations to build a recognized career as an artist, expressed his motivation before embarking on this ambitious endeavor. “I came to the United States to pursue my dreams and build up my career as a recognized artist,” he shared with Guinness World Records. “Breaking the record will boost my recognition as an artist both in my school and the world at large.”

The rules for the record attempt allow the artist to work on one large painting or create multiple pieces, all of which must depict recognizable images; abstract painting is not permissible. Over the course of four days, Ahaghotu worked tirelessly, producing an astonishing 106 pieces that showcased a diverse range of subjects, including celebrities, food items, plants, animals, and much more.

As he approached the 60th hour, surpassing the previous record, Ahaghotu painted a symbolic broken record player. Explaining his approach, he said, “One thing I love about the paintings I created is that they were representing my different moods and how I was feeling when I created them.”

Throughout this artistic marathon, Ahaghotu adhered to the stringent guidelines, taking only five-minute rest breaks for every continuous hour of activity. These breaks were crucial moments for him to use the bathroom, eat, or grab a few moments of rest.
