BREAKING: NLC and TUC Issue 14-Day Strike Notice

BREAKING: NLC and TUC Issue 14-Day Strike Notice

In a significant development, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have jointly issued a notice of a nationwide strike, effective in 14 days, to the Federal Government. The decision comes in response to the government’s alleged failure to implement the 16-point agreement reached with organized labor on October 2, 2023.

Expressing deep concern, the leaders of NLC and TUC highlighted the persistent neglect of citizens’ welfare and the apparent indifference of the government to the widespread suffering and hardship in the country. Despite the concerted efforts of organized labor to foster workplace harmony, the government’s perceived lack of response has left the unions with no recourse but to take drastic measures.

In a joint statement, NLC and TUC lamented, “It is regrettable that we are compelled to resort to such measures, but the persistent neglect of the welfare of citizens and Nigerian workers and the massive hardship leave us with no choice.”

The unions emphasized the urgency of the situation and the imperative of safeguarding the rights and dignity of Nigerian workers and citizens. As a result, they issued a stern ultimatum to the Federal Government, demanding the fulfillment of its commitments within 14 days from tomorrow, the 9th day of February 2024.

This notice of a nationwide strike reflects the unions’ determination to address the grievances and uphold the interests of the workforce and citizens. The potential impact of such a strike could have far-reaching consequences on various sectors, urging the government to swiftly address the concerns raised by NLC and TUC.

As the nation braces for a possible nationwide strike, stakeholders, including government officials, labor representatives, and the general public, await further developments and hope for a resolution that prioritizes the well-being of Nigerian workers and citizens.
