The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has claimed a sweeping victory in the Kano State Local Government elections, winning all 44 chairmanship seats and 484 councillorship positions across the state. The announcement was made by Professor Sani Lawan Malunfashi, Chairman of the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC), at the Commission’s headquarters in Kano.
Professor Malunfashi confirmed that the election process was carried out smoothly, in line with constitutional guidelines. He highlighted that the exercise involved comprehensive planning, organization, and coordination by KANSIEC and was conducted peacefully across Kano’s local government areas.

In his statement, Professor Malunfashi thanked key stakeholders for their roles in ensuring the success of the elections. He acknowledged the support of security agencies, media organizations, political party leaders, civil society groups, religious and community leaders, and youth and women’s organizations, whose efforts contributed to the smooth conduct of the election.
The election saw participation from six political parties, including AA, AAC, Accord, ADC, APM, and NNPP. However, NNPP won all available seats, demonstrating strong grassroots support across Kano State.
Professor Malunfashi emphasized that the peaceful and credible nature of the election shows public confidence in the process, with the people of Kano expressing their support through high voter turnout and engagement.
