Renowned Nigerian Islamic singer, Rukayat Gawat Oyefeso, has passed away, as confirmed by multiple sources on Tuesday morning. The sad news was first disclosed by a prominent cleric, Alfa Aribidesi At-Tawdeeh Islamic Da’awah, who took to his Facebook page to share the information.
In his post, Alfa Aribidesi wrote, “Our sympathy goes to the family of Ruqayat Gawat for this great loss. May Allah forgive her shortcomings! RUQAYAT GAWAT IS GONE!”

Further confirmation came from a relative of the late singer, Jubril Gawat, who serves as the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on New Media to the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu. Jubril took to X (formerly Twitter) with a post quoting the Qur’anic verse: “Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return” (Qur’an 2:156).
Gboyega Akosile, another aide to Governor Sanwo-Olu, also expressed his condolences on X, saying, “Ina lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. May Almighty Allah, the giver and taker of life, console the family of my dear brothers @Mr_JAGs @tfk_gawat on the passing of our beloved sister, Rukayat. May Aljannah Firdaus be her eternal home, and may Allah grant the family the strength to bear this irreplaceable loss.”
