President Bola Tinubu has appointed Nasiru Gawuna, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Kano, as the chairman of the governing council of Bayero University, Kano (BUK). This appointment comes as part of a broader reconstitution affecting the boards of 31 institutions.
The reconstituted BUK governing council includes prominent members such as Abubakar Dauda, Nora Alo, Ibrahim Obanikoro, and Musa Abbas.

The reconstitution follows President Tinubu’s directive on May 23 for a comprehensive review of the governing boards of tertiary institutions. This review was prompted by public outcry over the non-reflection of federal character in these boards. The president mandated that the review be completed prior to the inauguration and retreat planned for May 31.
