In a significant development in Kebbi State, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has outrightly rejected the recent judgment handed down by the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal. The tribunal’s ruling upheld the victory of Governor Nasir Idris as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and affirmed Dr. Nasir Idris of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the duly elected governor of the state.
Alhaji Usman Suru, the Chairman of the Kebbi State PDP, expressed the party’s strong dissatisfaction with the tribunal’s decision in a statement released to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Birnin Kebbi. Suru pointed out that the tribunal’s judgment was delivered on perplexing grounds that led to the dismissal of the PDP’s case.

Suru emphasized, “To our astonishment, the tribunal, under the leadership of Justice Ofem I Ofem, delivered a surprising verdict with bewildering reasons for dismissing our case.” He further stated, “Given this situation, the PDP, as both a party and petitioner, unequivocally disagrees with the verdict. Consequently, we have instructed our legal team to scrutinize the judgment and proceed with the process of filing an appeal without delay.”
This resolute move underscores the PDP’s determination to challenge the election results and vigorously pursue what they believe to be their “stolen mandate.” Chairman Suru called upon the party’s numerous supporters to remain steadfast, unwavering, and to uphold the rule of law throughout this legal battle.
