Cholera Outbreak in Kebbi Claims 24 Lives, 875 Cases Reported Across 10 LGAs

A cholera outbreak sweeping through ten local government areas (LGAs) in Kebbi State has led to the deaths of 24 people, with a total of 875 cases confirmed so far. The alarming situation was disclosed by Abubakar Bagudu Muhammad, Director of Public Health in the Kebbi State Ministry of Health, who also outlined efforts by the state government to contain the spread of the disease.

The outbreak, according to Muhammad, is primarily due to inadequate sanitation, flooding, scarcity of safe drinking water, and the prevalence of open defecation across affected areas. Among the fatalities, Suru LGA has been hit hardest, accounting for 13 of the 24 recorded deaths.
