The Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) has officially released the results of its October 2024 Diet Examination, marking a significant step forward for the institute’s commitment to quality education and professional development in taxation. Afolake Oso, CITN’s Registrar and Chief Executive, highlighted the institute’s recognition of students’ dedication and hard work in a statement released today.
In a noteworthy development, CITN also announced a major transition to computer-based testing (CBT) starting from April 2025. This shift aims to enhance the convenience and efficiency of the examination process. Previously piloted for foundation-level students with great success, the computer-based format will now be extended to cover Professional Examinations I and II. Alongside this change, a newly reviewed syllabus will come into effect, reflecting the evolving demands of the profession.

Challenges with Low CBT Turnout
Despite the positive outlook on digital transformation, CITN expressed concerns over the low turnout at its CBT sensitisation programs, which are designed to prepare students for the new examination format. These sessions, traditionally held on four Thursdays before each diet exam, provide an essential opportunity for students to familiarize themselves with the CBT platform and engage in mock exams. “We strongly encourage current and prospective students to take full advantage of these sensitisation programs,” CITN emphasized, stressing their importance in understanding the CBT system.
Preparation for a Seamless Transition
The institute also advised students to register with accredited tuition centres, utilize recommended study materials, and actively participate in the sensitisation programs. These steps are aimed at ensuring students are well-prepared for the rigors of the new exam format and to reduce the chances of unpreparedness. CITN remains dedicated to maintaining high standards in its examinations and producing top-tier tax professionals in Nigeria. The transition to computer-based testing represents a significant step towards aligning with global best practices and enhancing the quality of education for aspiring tax professionals.
Looking Ahead: Embracing Changes for Professional Growth
CITN’s commitment to excellence extends beyond exam reforms. The institute continues to emphasize the importance of professional growth and development, encouraging students to view exams as valuable opportunities for career advancement. “As CITN moves forward with these reforms, students are encouraged to embrace the changes and leverage the resources available to excel in their careers as tax professionals,” the statement concluded.
