It was reiterated in the statement that the purpose of reopening the border is to facilitate legitimate trade that contributes positively to the nation’s development. It was emphasized that this does not imply permission for the importation of prohibited items that could harm the economy and compromise national security.

Comptroller Ojike stressed that the Customs officers are committed to facilitating legal trade activities and will operate within the boundaries of the law to ensure smooth trade operations across the Kamba Border. Stakeholders were reminded to adhere to Customs laws, declare goods properly, and pay appropriate duties to the government.

The statement also highlighted that the exportation of food grains out of the country is still prohibited due to the scarcity of food within the nation.
