The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has recently clarified misconceptions surrounding its e-auction process, refuting claims of a N10,000 fee for duties to the Federal Government. In a bid to provide transparency, the NCS emphasized that the reserved price for auctioned vehicles stands at N400,000, not N10,000 as previously alleged.
According to Abdullahi Maiwada, the Customs National Public Relations Officer, the e-auction system aims to provide equal opportunities to all Nigerian bidders. Maiwada highlighted that many of the seized vehicles are currently under litigation and cannot be auctioned until the courts rule on their forfeiture to the Federal Government.

In light of recent data from five successful bidding windows, the NCS reported 13,605 registered applicants participating in the e-auction, with 476 vehicles uploaded and 462 successfully auctioned. Remarkably, the Federal Government accrued N556,738,736 in revenue from the auction, indicating the system’s efficiency and financial contribution.

Addressing concerns about integrity and fairness, Maiwada emphasized the NCS’s commitment to accountability and adherence to established guidelines. He rebuffed claims of fraudulent activities or preferential treatment, asserting that the Auction Committee operates within legal confines.
Furthermore, Maiwada dismissed allegations that over 300 vehicles were auctioned to a single individual, labeling such claims as false and baseless. He urged the public to verify auction details directly from Customs’ commands and formations across the country to prevent misinformation and misunderstanding.
In conclusion, the NCS reaffirmed its dedication to transparency and urged Nigerians to engage constructively in promoting an inclusive and fair auction system. The clarification aims to dispel misinformation and uphold the integrity of the e-auction process, ensuring equal opportunities for all participants.
