Dangote Foundation Launches N16 Billion Food Aid for Nigerians

The Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) has launched its 2025 Annual National Food Intervention Project, valued at N16 billion, aimed at providing food relief to one million Nigerians across the country.

The initiative was officially flagged off on Thursday in Kano State by Mr. Aliko Dangote, Chairman of the Foundation, who was represented by his daughter, Marya Dangote. He emphasized that this intervention aligns with the foundation’s commitment to addressing the ongoing economic hardships in Nigeria.

According to Marya Dangote, the foundation will distribute one million bags of 10kg rice to underprivileged and vulnerable individuals across Nigeria’s 774 local government areas. The distribution will be carried out in collaboration with state governments to ensure the aid reaches those who need it most.

“We recognize the challenges faced by many Nigerians, and this initiative is part of our commitment to reducing hunger and alleviating economic difficulties,” she said.

Marya Dangote urged other industrialists and organizations to join hands in combating hunger through similar initiatives, reinforcing the importance of public-private partnerships in addressing food insecurity.

“We commend the government for its efforts in tackling the food crisis, and we encourage stakeholders to contribute towards creating a better life for Nigerians,” she added.

Governor Abba Kabir-Yusuf of Kano State, represented by his Deputy, Aminu Abdulsalam-Gwarzo, praised the initiative as a crucial step in tackling hunger, particularly during the Ramadan period. He announced the formation of a dedicated committee, including security agencies, to oversee the transparent distribution of the food supplies.

The Managing Director of the foundation, Zouera Youssoufou, reiterated Aliko Dangote’s dedication to giving back to society through initiatives that support poverty eradication and hunger relief.

This latest intervention builds on other humanitarian efforts within Nigeria, such as the United Nations World Food Programme’s (WFP) $2.5 billion Nigeria Country Strategy Plan (CSP) for 2023-2027. The WFP initiative aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 1 and 2, which focus on eliminating poverty and hunger.

As economic challenges persist, initiatives like the Dangote Foundation’s food intervention project serve as a vital lifeline for vulnerable Nigerians. The program highlights the need for collective efforts from both the government and the private sector to address food insecurity and improve the well-being of citizens.
