Dangote Group Addresses EFCC’s Inquiry, Affirms Dedication to Transparent Investigation
The Chairman of the renowned Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has provided clarity on the recent visit by officials from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to the group’s headquarters in Lagos. The investigation revolves around the foreign exchange allocated to the company by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) from 2014 to the present.
In a statement released by Dangote, he highlighted that the EFCC’s inquiry, initiated on December 6, 2023, was part of a broader investigation involving 51 other groups of companies. The request sought detailed information on foreign exchange allocations spanning a decade. Dangote Group promptly responded, seeking clarification on the specific subsidiaries required and requesting additional time for comprehensive document compilation.

Despite their commitment, Dangote expressed concerns about the EFCC’s rigid timeframe and lack of clarification. The statement conveyed that the EFCC insisted on immediate submission of the entire set of documents without providing the requested clarifications or granting an extension.
Dangote emphasized that, as of now, no accusations of wrongdoing have been directed at any company within the Dangote Group. The first batch of requested documents was delivered to the EFCC on January 4, 2024. However, an unexpected turn of events occurred as EFCC officers, during the document submission process, visited Dangote Group’s offices, seemingly creating an unnecessary spectacle.

As a key contributor to the national GDP and a major player in the private sector, Dangote Group remains steadfast in its belief in Nigeria’s commitment to the rule of law and a conducive environment for investment.
Despite the challenges faced during the EFCC visit, Dangote Group urges stakeholders to exercise understanding and patience, promising to keep them informed of any further developments.
