
Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has donated vehicles to 40 Jumma’at Mosque Imams across the state as part of efforts to support their religious and community responsibilities. The initiative is designed to improve their mobility and enhance their capacity to carry out preaching, counseling, and peace-building activities.
Speaking during the presentation ceremony, Governor Lawal explained that effective religious leadership requires adequate support, particularly in terms of transportation. He noted that many Imams frequently travel for sermons, community engagement, conflict resolution, and other religious assignments. According to him, providing vehicles will significantly ease their movement and improve their impact across communities.
The governor emphasized that Zamfara is built on strong Islamic foundations and that religious leaders play a central role in promoting moral values, unity, and peaceful coexistence. He stated that his administration remains committed to improving the welfare of clerics throughout the state’s 14 local government areas. In addition to the vehicle donation, he revealed that the government is also constructing mosques and residential houses for Imams to ensure they are adequately supported.

Governor Lawal described the donation as the first phase of a broader intervention programme. He assured that more religious leaders may benefit in subsequent phases, adding that sustained collaboration between government and clerics is essential for long-term peace and development in Zamfara State. He further urged the beneficiaries to continue praying for stability, security, and progress in the state and Nigeria at large.
The Governor’s Special Adviser on Religious Affairs, Sheikh Bello Almufty, commended the governor’s leadership style, describing him as a leader dedicated to fairness, justice, and inclusive governance. He noted that the current administration has made notable improvements in the welfare packages and allowances of religious leaders.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Sheikh Atiku Zawiyya expressed gratitude to the governor, stating that the vehicles would greatly strengthen the Imams’ ability to serve their communities effectively. He described the gesture as timely and impactful, pledging continued prayers and support for the success of the administration.
The vehicle distribution is widely seen as part of the state government’s broader strategy to empower religious institutions as partners in promoting social harmony, ethical conduct, and sustainable peace across Zamfara.
