The Nigerian Army has officially opened its recruitment portal for the Direct Short Service Commission (DSSC) 29/2026, inviting qualified Nigerians to apply for commissioned officer positions across selected corps and services.

According to the Nigerian Army, the DSSC 29/2026 recruitment exercise is open to both civilians and serving military personnel who meet the required qualifications and conditions. Successful applicants will be commissioned to serve in professional and technical capacities within the Nigerian Army.

Applicants can apply into the following corps:
Nigerian Army Engineers
Nigerian Army Signals
Nigerian Army Medical Corps
Nigerian Army Electrical and Mechanical Engineers
Nigerian Army Education Corps

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for the DSSC 29/2026 recruitment, applicants must:
Be Nigerian by birth, male or female
Be between 20 and 32 years of age by 30 March 2026
Medical consultants may be between 25 and 40 years of age
Be medically, mentally, and physically fit
Be of good character and be recommended by at least two recognized referees

Acceptable referees include a Local Government Chairman or Secretary, an officer of the Armed Forces not below the rank of Lieutenant Colonel or its equivalent, or an Assistant Commissioner of Police and above. Referees must be from the applicant’s state of origin.

Academic and Professional Qualifications

Applicants must possess:
A first degree with not less than Second Class Upper Division, or
An HND with not less than Upper Credit where applicable

Only post-secondary academic qualifications obtained from 2011 to date will be considered. Applicants with professional qualifications must be duly registered with their relevant regulatory bodies. A valid NYSC discharge certificate or exemption certificate is mandatory.

Applicants must present a valid birth certificate and a valid state of origin certificate
A letter of attestation from former institutions attended is required
Minimum height is 1.68m for males and 1.65m for females
Applicants must not have tattoos or bodily inscriptions
Applicants must not have been convicted by any court of law
Applicants must not belong to any cult, society, or fraternity
All original educational certificates from primary to post-secondary level must be presented

Requirements for Serving Military Personnel

Serving personnel applying for DSSC 29/2026 must present a valid military identity card, a letter of recommendation from their Commanding Officer or Commander, and must have served for a minimum period of five years.

The DSSC 29/2026 application is online and free of charge. Applications open from 7 January 2026 and close on 4 February 2026. Applicants are required to print their online-generated slip or card after completing the application process.
