DSS Discovers 18 Bag of Currency in Emefiele's House at Lagos

In a shocking turn of events, operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have reportedly seized 18 Ghana-must-go bags filled with money and documents from the residence of the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele. This significant development comes after a thorough search conducted at Emefiele’s Lagos residence, lasting for an entire day.

Sources indicate that the search, carried out on Friday afternoon, resulted in the recovery of a substantial amount of currency and important documents. The operation follows Emefiele’s arrest by the DSS on June 10, and he has since remained in the agency’s custody for the past eight days.

While initial reports suggested that Emefiele’s detention might be of short duration, the investigation into his activities during his tenure as the head of the apex bank seems to be far from complete. According to reliable information, the DSS obtained a court order on Thursday, granting them permission to detain the former CBN chief for three weeks. There are indications that his detention might be extended further.

The DSS transferred Emefiele from their custody in Abuja to Lagos on Thursday, where his residence was thoroughly searched by their operatives. Following the conclusion of the search operation, approximately 18 large Ghana-must-go bags filled with currency and documents were seized on the subsequent day, Friday.

Emefiele was then flown back to Abuja on Friday afternoon, accompanied by the recovered bags. Investigators have wasted no time in resuming their interrogations, particularly focusing on the findings from the search operation.

It has been revealed that the secret Police are also on a manhunt for Emefiele’s personal assistant, who remains at large. The assistant, whose identity is being withheld, is believed to hold crucial information pertaining to Emefiele’s assets and undisclosed wealth, both within and outside the country. Authorities consider him to be a vital key to unlocking the full extent of the former CBN governor’s financial dealings.

This dramatic development follows President Bola Tinubu’s decision on June 9 to suspend Emefiele as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and initiate an investigation into his conduct. The subsequent arrest by the DSS further intensified scrutiny on Emefiele’s activities during his tenure.
