The Ilorin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested Adeniyi James, the General Overseer of CAC Freedom City Prophetic and Deliverance Ministry in Ilorin, Kwara State, on April 2, 2024. He was apprehended for allegedly defrauding a member of his church, Oluwole Babarinsa, of N3,980,000.
According to a statement by the EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, Babarinsa claimed in a petition that James had singled him out during a church service in 2021, claiming to have a revelation about his imminent travel abroad. When asked, Babarinsa expressed a preference for Canada.

Subsequently, an agreement was allegedly made for James to assist Babarinsa in relocating to Canada, requiring payments of N1.7 million for facilitation and N2.5 million for processing flight tickets and travel documents. Babarinsa sold some of his possessions and took out loans to raise the N3,980,000, which he handed over to James.
However, despite Babarinsa’s payments, no progress was made towards his relocation. Frustrated by the lack of results, he demanded a refund from James, which reportedly led to further complications.
The EFCC’s investigation into the matter resulted in James’ arrest for fraud, pending further legal proceedings.
