EFCC Arrests 14 in Makurdi "Yahoo Academy" for Internet Fraud

In a significant operation, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended 14 individuals suspected of engaging in internet fraud at a so-called “Yahoo Academy” in Makurdi. The arrests took place following a raid by operatives from the Makurdi Zonal Command at a three-bedroom apartment along Achusa Road, Benue State, believed to be a training center for individuals involved in internet fraud.

The suspects, identified as Asongu Terungwa, Aese Sonter, Nyoosu Terungwa, John Kator, Udi Aodona, Terungu Mnyam, Iorwuese Terhide, Ule Francis, Imoter Gloor Emmanuel, Samuel Lubem, Wergba Tertamge, Erukaa Ephraim, Agenale Franklin, and Abechi Toryila, were taken into custody during the operation.

The EFCC’s action was prompted by intelligence, leading them to the alleged training center for internet fraud trainees. The suspects were found in possession of various items, including laptops, ATM cards, phones, a Firman generator, and a Toyota Corolla car.

This development underscores the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to combat cybercrime and protect individuals from falling victim to internet fraud schemes. The EFCC remains vigilant in its mission to investigate and prosecute those involved in fraudulent activities, sending a clear message that such actions will not go unpunished.
