EFCC Arrests 23 Suspected Yahoo Boys in Sokoto

In a targeted operation against cybercrime, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Sokoto State Command, has apprehended 23 individuals suspected of participating in online fraudulent activities, commonly known as ‘Yahoo boys’. The operation, driven by meticulous surveillance and intelligence, unfolded in the Bafarawa Estate within Sokoto metropolis.

The suspects’ opulent lifestyles, inconsistent with legitimate income sources, triggered the EFCC’s intervention. The agency’s focus on “intelligence-driven observations along with intensive close monitoring” emphasizes its commitment to curbing the scourge of internet-related scams.

The EFCC’s operation resulted in the seizure of incriminating items, including two vehicles – a red Toyota Corolla 2009 and a white Toyota Corolla 2015 – believed to have been acquired through ill-gotten gains. Additionally, a range of digital tools used for cyber activities, such as laptops, phones, routers, and a generator, were confiscated, underscoring the material evidence of the alleged crimes.
