EFCC Arrests 48 Suspected Internet Fraudsters in Abia State Today; Seizes Exotic Cars and Gadgets

In a significant crackdown on cybercrime, operatives of the Uyo Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have apprehended 48 individuals suspected of engaging in internet fraud in Umudike, Abia State.

The arrests, which were carried out on September 2, 2024, followed a coordinated operation based on actionable intelligence. According to a statement released on the EFCC’s official X handle, the suspects were apprehended at various locations within Umudike.

During the operation, the EFCC recovered an array of high-value items, including 12 exotic cars, 15 different brands of laptops, and 68 premium smartphones. These items are believed to have been used in the execution of fraudulent activities.

The EFCC has stated that the suspects are currently under investigation and will be charged in court once the investigation is concluded. This operation marks a significant step in the ongoing efforts to combat cybercrime in Nigeria, particularly in the eastern region.

As the investigation progresses, the EFCC reiterates its commitment to curbing financial crimes and bringing perpetrators to justice. The agency also calls on the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.
