In a significant crackdown on internet fraud, the Uyo Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended 48 suspected internet fraudsters in Umudike, Abia State. The arrests, which took place on Friday, August 30, 2024, followed detailed intelligence on the suspects’ alleged involvement in various online scams.
During the operation, EFCC operatives seized a range of high-value items from the suspects, including 12 luxury vehicles, 15 laptops of different brands, and 68 expensive smartphones. These assets are believed to be linked to the fraudulent activities of those detained.
The suspects will face charges in court once the ongoing investigations are completed. This operation highlights the EFCC’s continued commitment to tackling internet fraud and its impact on the community.
