EFCC Chairman Olukoyede Honors Slain Officer with Posthumous Bravery Award, Vows Justice

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has posthumously honored Assistant Superintendent of the EFCC, ASE II Aminu Sahabi, with an award of bravery. This recognition was given in Sokoto on February 7, 2025, during Olukoyede’s condolence visit to the bereaved family.

Honoring a Fallen Hero

Sahabi was tragically killed on January 17, 2025, in Awka, Anambra State, while carrying out an official operation to apprehend suspected internet fraudsters. His dedication and sacrifice in the line of duty were acknowledged as Olukoyede assured the family that justice would be served.

Accompanied by senior EFCC officials, including the Director of Finance and Accounts, Ahmed Pate, and the Acting Director of the Sokoto Zonal Directorate, Nwanneka Nwokike, Olukoyede expressed deep sympathy for the loss. He emphasized that the commission stands with the grieving family and will ensure that Sahabi’s legacy is preserved.

Commitment to Justice and Family Support

In his speech, Olukoyede reassured the family that the commission remains committed to ensuring that those responsible for the officer’s death face the full weight of the law.

“I am personally here to assure you that his sacrifice will never be forgotten nor will those accused of the heinous act of his murder be allowed to go free. They must and they will face the full wrath of the law,” he stated.

He further presented a condolence letter on behalf of the EFCC and the Federal Government, confirming that the commission had finalized the process of releasing the late officer’s benefits to his next of kin.

“Going forward, I want to assure you that the family will not be forgotten as I will make time to visit intermittently because for us in the EFCC, we are a family.”

Immortalizing Aminu Sahabi’s Legacy

In recognition of Sahabi’s bravery, a building at the EFCC Academy in Abuja has been named after him. Justice Mohammed Shuaibu, speaking on behalf of the family, expressed gratitude for this gesture, acknowledging the EFCC’s support during and after the burial.

“As a family, we also express our gratitude to the commission for naming a building at the EFCC Academy, Abuja, after our son to immortalize his sacrifice,” Shuaibu stated.

Strengthening EFCC’s Commitment to Officers’ Welfare

Following his visit, Olukoyede proceeded to the EFCC Sokoto Zonal Directorate, where he inspected a guard of honor and met with officers to discuss ongoing efforts to enhance the welfare and security of personnel.

This recognition of Sahabi’s sacrifice highlights the EFCC’s dedication to its officers, ensuring that their bravery and commitment to fighting financial crimes are never forgotten.
