
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reignited investigations into a staggering N772 billion fraud case, implicating prominent figures including Rabiu Kwankwaso, Bello Matawalle, Ayodele Fayose, and 11 other former governors. The anti-graft agency is intensifying efforts to scrutinize allegations of financial impropriety and mismanagement by key political figures.
Among those under the EFCC’s lens are Kwankwaso, the former governor of Kano State, facing allegations of non-remittance of N10 billion pension funds. Bello Matawalle, currently serving as the Minister of Defence, is being probed for alleged N70 billion money laundering. Ayodele Fayose, a two-term governor of Ekiti State, is under investigation for an alleged N6.9 billion fraud.

The scope of the investigation extends to other high-profile individuals, including former Ekiti State governor Kayode Fayemi, who served as the Minister of Solid Minerals Development in the Buhari administration. Fayemi is being investigated for an alleged N4 billion fraud. The EFCC is also scrutinizing the financial activities of former Enugu State governors Chimaroke Nnamani and Sullivan Chime, as well as Abdullahi Adamu, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Peter Odili, Theodore Orji, Danjuma Goje, Aliyu Wamako, Timipre Sylva, and Sule Lamido.
The allegations involve a range of financial misconduct, from money laundering to campaign fraud. The investigation further delves into the disappearance of $2.2 billion designated for arms procurement during the fight against terrorism, implicating figures such as former National Security Adviser Sambo Dasuki, the late media mogul Raymond Dokpesi, and others.

EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, has emphasized a comprehensive review of high-profile cases and directed investigators to treat all individuals impartially, regardless of their social or political standing. The renewed efforts underscore the commitment to combating corruption without bias.
Diezani Alison-Madueke, former Minister of Petroleum Resources, is also part of the ongoing investigation, facing allegations of money laundering involving billions of naira and millions of dollars.
