The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has appealed for calm and patience as it conducts a meticulous investigation into allegations of corruption against the former Governor of Zamfara State and current Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle. The commission’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, emphasized the need for thoroughness in probing corruption cases, including the alleged misappropriation of N70 billion during Matawalle’s tenure as governor.
Members of the Tinubu Youth and Women Network staged a protest at the EFCC’s headquarters in Abuja, expressing their concerns over the delay in the probe of Matawalle. Led by Aliyu Yunusa, the group formally requested the EFCC to reopen the investigation into the corruption allegations against the former governor.

The protesters highlighted their commitment to collaboration with the government to combat corruption and ensure transparency and accountability within the system. They referenced previous statements by the EFCC regarding the investigation into Matawalle’s alleged involvement in massive corruption, fictitious contract awards, and diversion of public funds during his tenure as governor.
In response to the demonstrators’ demands, Oyewale assured that their message would be conveyed to the EFCC’s executive chairman, Ola Olukoyede. He reiterated the commission’s dedication to conducting comprehensive investigations and emphasized the importance of addressing corruption effectively.
As the investigation progresses, stakeholders await further developments regarding the allegations against Matawalle and anticipate measures to uphold accountability in public office.
