In a historic event on December 16, 2023, Nasir El-Rufai, the former Governor of Kaduna State, achieved a significant milestone by receiving a chieftaincy title from the Awujale of Ijebuland, HRM Oba Sikiru Adetona. El-Rufai, who previously served as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, was installed as the Gbobaniyi of Ijebuland during a ceremony held at the palace of the Paramount Ruler in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.

This ceremony holds immense historical significance as Nasir El-Rufai becomes the first Nigerian outside the South-West region to be honored with a chieftaincy title by the Awujale of Ijebuland in his remarkable six-decade reign. The former governor expressed his delight on social media, announcing the prestigious recognition and expressing gratitude to Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona.

This remarkable recognition comes at a pivotal time for El-Rufai, who, following a setback in his ministerial nomination, took an academic journey abroad. The ceremony not only celebrates the achievements of El-Rufai but also honors Otunba Jimi Lawal, a former PDP governorship aspirant in Ogun State, who received two chieftaincy titles for his notable contributions to Nigeria.

As Nasir El-Rufai plots his return to national prominence, this historic event adds a new chapter to his political journey, showcasing his continued influence and recognition beyond regional boundaries.
