The National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has reportedly invited distribution companies for a meeting to discuss the impending tariff hike. The move comes amid concerns about the short notice and potential dissatisfaction among customers.

The source expressed fear over the abrupt increase, noting that while it is mandatory for electricity distribution companies to regularly evaluate tariffs every six months, the recent adjustment might face resistance from consumers. “In fact, we were perturbed by the short notice and how we would reach out to our customers about the increase,” the source added.

When questioned about the extent of the tariff increase, the source admitted to having no concrete information, emphasizing that only the NERC would be privy to such details.

In response to the development, another source from the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) informed Daily Trust on Sunday that the NERC would hold the key to determining the magnitude of the upcoming tariff adjustment.

As consumers await further information on the specifics of the tariff hike, the electricity distribution companies find themselves in a challenging position, grappling with uncertainties and concerns about customer satisfaction.
