The Federal Government has announced the distribution of agricultural inputs to farmers in Abia, Kebbi, and Yobe states. This initiative aims to support cultivation across more than 340 hectares of farmland in these areas. The distribution is part of broader efforts to ensure an adequate supply of staple foods nationwide, especially given global agricultural challenges and food shortages.
President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency on food in July 2023, prompting various measures to enhance food security. As part of these efforts, the National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA) initiated an empowerment program. Its goal is to alleviate the impact of high living costs and bolster food production. Under this program, accredited beneficiaries received agricultural inputs tailored to their specific needs.

In Abia and Yobe states, farmers received bags containing high-grade fertilizers, herbicides, and improved maize seeds. Meanwhile, Kebbi farmers obtained improved rice seeds. The distribution events were organized in collaboration with local authorities and took place at designated centers.
In Abia, for instance, beneficiaries from all local government areas congregated at the NALDA Institute of Agribusiness and Entrepreneurship in IsiAla Okpu community, Osisioma Local Government Area. Officials from NALDA, led by Executive Secretary Paul Ikonne, oversaw the distribution. Ikonne emphasized the significance of the empowerment program in his address to the farmers, delivered in their local dialect.
