Federal Government (FMYD) Releases Progress Report on Ongoing Youth Programs

The Federal Ministry of Youth Development has released a progress update on six flagship initiatives designed to empower Nigerian youth with employable skills, financial support, digital inclusion, and health awareness. The ministry reiterated that these programs are key to preparing young Nigerians for employment, entrepreneurship, and sustainable livelihoods.

1. Nigerian Youth Academy (NiYA)

Launch Date: 24th March, 2025
Initiative: One Youth, Two Skills – ensuring every youth acquires at least two employable skills for entrepreneurship and job opportunities.

Platforms & Participation:

• NiYA Academy: 59,712 users
• NiYA Community: 64,399 users
• NiYA Gigs: 18,690 users

2. Nigerian Youth Helpdesk

Launch Date: 16th May, 2024
Objective: Strengthening trust between government and young citizens by addressing youth concerns transparently through a technology-driven helpdesk.

Achievements:

• 5,000+ engagements since launch
• Cases resolved: police issues, scams, mental health, and other public service complaints
• Improved public trust with timely responses

Implementation:

• Pilot phase in FCT, receiving nationwide complaints
• Managed by trained NYSC corps members as Help Desk Officers
• Partnerships: NYSC, Nigeria Police, Ministry of Health, UNODC, civic groups

3. Corpreneur Support Scheme

Launch Date: 24th April, 2024
Objective: Providing corps members with tools, grants, and work gadgets to support their transition into entrepreneurship and employment.

• 200+ corps members received empowerment grants
• 100+ corps members received work gadgets (e.g., laptops)

Next Action: Ongoing disbursement of grants and tools to more corps members.

4. YouthCred

Launch Date: 7th August, 2025
Objective: Enhancing financial literacy while offering young entrepreneurs access to credit support.

Achievements:

• First batch of applicants receiving credit support

5. Youth Data Protection (YDPAT)

Objective: Equipping young Nigerians with digital skills and knowledge in data security and literacy.

• Distribution of menstrual hygiene products to girls
